The Story Behind Two Peas and a Pot
Our story began during those quiet months of 2020 when the world pressed pause, and we found solace in binge-watching The Great Pottery Throwdown and Florian Gadsby’s mesmerizing work. We filled our heads with hypothetical knowledge about centering, pulling, and trimming all without ever getting our hands on clay.
When things opened back up, we leapt at the chance to join a local Makerspace with its own pottery section. We soon realized that what looks effortless on TV is anything but when it’s your own hands on the wheel. Yet, even with lopsided bowls and wobbly mugs, we were hooked. There’s something magical about shaping clay, turning raw material into something both beautiful and functional. It’s a joy we didn’t know we were missing, so different from our day jobs spent “creating” on computers.
Eventually, we realized that driving 20 minutes to the Makerspace wasn’t ideal, especially when timing clay for trimming is an art in itself. After the disappointment of many too-dry pots, we decided to bring pottery closer to home, setting up our first wheel in the backyard workshop. That decision opened a new chapter. One wheel turned into more, then more tools, more clay, and eventually a kiln.
Before we knew it, we had more pots than we knew what to do with. And so, Two Peas and a Pot was born. Each piece we make carries the story of our journey, the early struggles, the little victories, and the love we’ve discovered for this craft.
When we’re not working or potting, we love cooking vegan meals or spending time with our two kitties. They fill our lives with so much joy and mischief and they’re helpful, too! Every box destined for shipping gets inspected for quality control (and sometimes claimed as a nap spot). Of course, some pots have fallen victim to what seems to be a universal feline desire to knock things off counters. But let’s be honest, if a pot can’t survive a little fall, maybe it wasn’t meant to be.
Thank you for visiting our shop and supporting our passion. Whether you’re sipping coffee from one of our mugs or serving dinner in a handmade bowl, we hope you feel the joy and heart that went into creating it. From our backyard workshop (with occasional kitty supervisors) to your home, we’re so happy to share this journey with you!
And bonus: this is us with Florian! Can you believe it? We had the incredible opportunity to visit him during his short residency at an art gallery on Long Island. Meeting him in person, seeing his process up close, and learning from one of our greatest inspirations was an unforgettable experience that continues to shape the way we approach this craft.
